COVER REVEAL: Screw Up by Alexis Wilder

Title: Screw Up
Author: Alexis Wilder
Genre: Erotica

Cassie has hit hard times. She can’t find a job, her mother is headed for jail, and her love life jumped a plane and fled to another continent. What’s an ardent fangirl to do? When a handsome new acquaintance offers her a lucrative position writing for his online publication, TenFootPole, Cassie jumps at the chance to make some real money doing what she loves: writing. The only catch is the subject matter. She’s assigned the celebrity gossip magazine’s new beat, the sex desk, and must score with a big name actor and then tell the readers all about it. In graphic detail. In fact, Mr. Wilcox wants to know everything about them, but mostly what they’ve got beneath their belt and how they use it while consorting with newly made friends. Her new employers point out that in order to remain a viable undercover operative, she must keep her new position a secret, and decide to publish her articles under the pseudonym the Tinseltown Temptress. At first, she’s dismayed by this restriction (how is a writer supposed to make a name for themselves when no one knows what that name is?), but she soon realizes that no amount of anonymity would be enough to protect her from the repercussions of her notorious stories. As her personal life circles the drain, Cassie grasps for handholds in all the wrong laps and struggles to keep her head above the shark infested water. Continuing to invest in a male-revue nightclub is her one source of hope for a future outside of sexual journalism, but when that, and her long-standing friendship with its owner are put in jeopardy, she must either rally her seductive forces to save herself or sink forever under the waves.

As a longtime fan of modern, paranormal, and historical romances Alexis Wilder’s love for the more erotic passages has caused her to accidentally crease the bindings of many handy paperbacks. While discussing the finer points of recent publishing trends with a friend, she was forced to accept that it was finally time to bring her quirky, filthy writing style to the attention of the world, mostly for their own good. Thus, the Tinseltown Temptress was born, springing into existence, fully formed, from her forehead and taking the form of a sneaky, horny, struggling celebrity sex reporter. The rest of the story was a bit harder won, but the behind-the-scenes story of Cassie’s successes, failures, pain and joy paint a broader picture of the woman behind the myth that every fan of her adventurous articles will be clamoring to read. Screw Up, the first erotic novel in the series will be releasing in July 2015 (full articles are already available as samples online) with two other novels in the series planned for 2016.
Alexis attended Central Michigan University quite a while ago and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in RTF (Radio, TV and Film) with a writing concentration that she used to write several unsold screenplays and to find various employment (like a starving maze rat) in the cutthroat world of video production. In the past, she has also held many service industry jobs, including fast-food, retail, and as waitstaff and holds all such demanding work in extremely high regard. (Tip your waitress, people!)
She lives with her family in Southeast Michigan and really wants to get a new puppy. A natural homebody, she loves to cuddle with her best friend while watching their favorite television shows and swims whenever she gets the chance. Alexis occasionally takes a break from her healthy eating routine and scarfs down a bacon cheeseburger while drinking beer. She also gardens, mostly tomatoes, and complains about Michigan’s weather while enjoying mostly everything else about living there. Let’s see, what else? Her feet are always freezing, she loves guacamole, and, though she does walk pretty fast for someone so vertically challenged, she never ever runs anywhere. An active fangirl, she restricts her stanning to her various aliases and does not chase down celebrity men for sex in real life. Seriously.

Emily (Skipping Stones: Book 1)

“Please tell me you’re not seeing each other.” He says as he locks eyes with me.

I swallow wrapping my arms around myself not understanding his reaction. “No we’re just hanging out, that’s all.”

I watch as his shoulders fall and then he surprises me by quickly closing the distance between us, grabbing my waist and the back of my neck. Before I can even begin to understand what’s happening his mouth is on mine and his tongue is pushing between my lips seeking my own. And for just a moment I let myself fall into the familiar warmth and comfort I’ve always found in his embrace. I surrender to his will kissing him back, his familiar taste invading my mouth and overtaking my senses. But the noise of a child hollering brings reality crashing back on me, and I push my way out of his embrace breaking the kiss.

I stand there and stare him in the eyes as so many emotions threaten to break the surface, with a trembling hand I cover my mouth as I shake my head back and forth.

“That shouldn’t have happened,” I whisper. Remembering how easy it was too lose myself in his arms.

He frowns and I can tell he’s frustrated with the whole situation as he runs his hands through his hair covering his face as he lets out a muffled scream.

“Emily…please I think…no, I mean I know I screwed up. I should have never let you go and I’m sorry.”

5 Stars
The story of Garnet, Lena…and Wes.
This story is told in the first person perspective from Garnet.
When the story begins, we find out Garnet is in love with/lives with Lena, her girlfriend of 3 years. Garnet is a DJ (although it said she sings - so that confused me a bit, haven't know DJs to sing).  She has regular gigs at a club, and has an upcoming festival she will play at.
Wes is a down and out football player - ousted from the sport for doing drugs.  He seems like a stalker when he comes in, and he's determined to have Garnet in his bed, not caring that she defines herself as a lesbian.
When Garnet goes on the road trip to play the music festival, Wes is there.  Turns out he now works for a guy that has clubs all over the place and also sponsors tours of major names.  They offer her a contract to work for them, a huge opportunity.
Sex scenes between Garnet and Lena are descriptive.
The stuff that Wes does makes him feel like a huge sleeze-ball! I'm just not sure I will ever like him, especially after what happens at the end of this book.
The story definitely leaves you wanting to rush to book 2 to continue the story!

Spin Me Round - book 2
4.5 Stars
The story of Garnet, Lena…and Wes.
The second part of the story is told in alternating first person perspective of Garnet and Wes.
This story begins where book 1 left off. Something has happened between Garnet and Wes, and she is having a hard time facing him.  On a trip back to see Lena, she continues to lie (or rather - omit the truth), and when she must return to the festival tour - she has the same problem of having to face Wes.
This part of the story is less action/story telling, and has a few extraneous people interruptions instead of the main characters.  I did enjoy having a small portion of perspective from Wes, but obviously we are missing a lot of the story - including back story.  I feel as though I will (hopefully) learn it all and enjoy the ending - which is part 3.
I feel like a part that was skimmed over in part 2 will come to a very serious head in part 3.  Can't wait!

The story of Garnet, Lena…and Wes.
This third story is told in alternating first person perspectives of Garnet and Wes.
Garnet and Wes are now working closely during the music festival tour.  Gar is slowly remembering her night with Wes, but he is giving an ultimatum that it needs to be him or Lena.  She knows who she is choosing, but she is still drawn to the other person as well.
I must admit this one had me confused. I felt as though up was now down, and right was now left. I admit to being relieved when I found out there would at least be a book 4 - because I thought the story was going to hurry and end, and it would have totally "jumped the shark".
Wes now acts differently than he did in books 1-2, Garnet seems to be the same, and Lena…new information comes to light on her and…
Don't want to give the plot away.  I do hope the author finally addresses the "16 year old familiarity" plot point at some time before it ends.  I am so curious about it!

BLOG TOUR and RRBB REVIEW: Dark Lashes by Felice Fox

© Felice Fox 2014

When Talia Iverson’s never-ending search for love takes a desperate turn, she skips out on her Hollywood starlet clientele hoping to disappear on her uncle’s ranch in western Montana. Training livestock guard dogs seems the perfect diversion—protect the wolf pack living on Iverson Ranch, and her uncle’s cattle. But when a son of their neighboring ranch suspiciously offers to help her track and ID the wolf pack, Talia discovers what it really means to tangle with a predator.

Rancher Abel Cameron is the most dangerous kind of bad boy—when he’s wicked, he means it. Convinced the shared, open relationship he’s in is the only kind that will tolerate his dark sexual needs, Abel knows he won’t ever be the primary man in any woman’s life. But when Talia Iverson shows up to protect the wolf pack denned up on his neighbor’s ranch, he sees her for who she is—a lost soul who could break open his cold, jammed up heart. And he’s just reckless enough to show her how to do it.

.   .   .   .   .

The rodeo competition ended and, as they pulled away from the fence, Marcie paused and Talia did too, not giving much thought to why or what was next on the agenda. She was here to follow, mimic someone else’s healthy behaviors for a while.
Marcie caught her eye and they smiled knowingly at each other. It was good to just be together.
A couple headed toward them. The man had a sexy swagger, golden-brown eyes and a killer smile he was aiming right at Talia.
Whoa. Her eyes slid from those hunky shoulders down to the fingers entwined with another person’s. Thank goodness he was holding hands with someone already. And wedding rings too. Way off-limits.
“You must be Talia,” the woman said, beaming at her, arms wide for a hug. “I’m Holly and this is my husband Gavin.”
Talia accepted the hug with her shoulders bowed forward, then pulled away. Gavin tipped his hat. Didn’t try to touch her. Not even a handshake. Good. Better not to touch him. She wasn’t ready for that challenge. She shoved her hands into her jeans pockets and squinted down at her toes.
“Nice to meet you.”
“Brody did pretty good out there,” Marcie said.
Holly laughed. “That’s what Gav’ tells me. I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on.”
Marcie smirked.
“So you’re saying this is your first rodeo.”
Holly rolled her eyes at Marcie and the warmth passing between them settled Talia. Something about her was actually comforting. She was lovely. She was the kind of girl men would stick around for. She
Talia stopped herself. She recognized this line of thinking and knew it wasn’t going anywhere good. She’d start to compare herself to Holly and her own self-esteem would plummet. Then she’d start hating Holly for absolutely no good reason. Holly was her own person and no threat. Talia had spent too many years comparing herself to other women, seeing them as the competition.
Lost in her thoughts, Talia had not heard the other man approach, but she felt Marcie stiffen beside her and looked up into a face she wished she hadn’t seen. A treacherous beauty of a man, six-two or taller, with ruffled black hair just visible under his cowboy hat. He was stunning, appearing out of nowhere, looming behind Gavin, a presence that would have made Talia stumble had she been in motion.
Marcie looked away. No one else acknowledged him. After a few long moments, Talia wondered if he was a phantom only she could see, the physical embodiment of the thing she was running from, the thing she feared most.
But a moment later Holly reached back and touched his shoulder, running her fingers down the back of his arm, to briefly lace his hand in hers and bring him forward. He moved stiffly into their small circle and Talia moved back.
“Talia, this is Abel Cameron, one of Gavin’s many brothers.”
She felt, rather than saw, her cousin watching her. Talia pressed her heels into the dirt and nodded. She didn’t want to show any reaction to him whatsoever but, when her gaze finally met his, she swallowed hard.
Ice blue eyes shifted down the side of her neck and lingered, and Talia lost her grip. Abel Cameron sensed what she was; his kind could smell her. She thought she’d scrubbed herself clean of all sensual expression—no make-up, no tight clothing—so as to avoid this kind of attention, but no. Here it was before her, temptation like a demon gatekeeper that would not let her pass easily into another kind of life.
He licked his lips, as if he knew how good they tasted, and drew his eyes slowly back up to hers, nodded, then looked away.
Talia plummeted.
Raven hair. Wicked mouth.
No, no, no! It’s just black. Plain old black. And a regular old mouth she had no need to kiss.
“You two want to come back to our place for supper?” Gavin asked.
“No—” Marcie and Talia said at once, a little too fast and hard. Their gazes snapped together like magnets.
“What we mean is, thank you but no, Mom is waiting on us. Been cooking an all-day roast and I don’t want to miss it.”
Relieved, Talia’s shoulders dropped and she took a deep breath. Good ol’ Marcie and her little white lies. Talia knew she’d come to the right place. She wasn’t ready for so many new people, not to mention being at a table with—well goodness knows how many more brothers there were at home. She’d spend the evening staring into her dinner plate, trying not to fantasize about stealing Gavin away from his wife.
Or this one. Abel. Even his name was a warning.
It was a test she wasn’t ready to take. Not yet anyway. She was like an alcoholic newly sober, keeping to the other side of the street, away from the bar.
It was all too easy to fall for another guy. And another. And another. Endlessly and without genuine love.
Talia’s sense of weakness twisted her gut. She raised the backs of her fingers to the side of her neck, absently brushing them over the tingle and burn where Abel’s eyes had grazed her. She looked up at him and, catching his smirk, quickly lowered her hand and raised her chin.
She wouldn’t let him catch her again.

3.5 Stars

The story of Abel and Talia.
Abel is a rancher in Montana where Talia is from. Talia is a dog trainer. When the story begins, Talia is in Hollywood, training dogs for celebrities.
It soon becomes clear that Talia falls in love with men at first site, practically having them married and popping out their babies before they speak a word to each other.  This pattern gets her in trouble, and her cousin back in Montana - with whom she talks on the phone on a regular basis - convinces her that she should return to Montana and forget this guy craze.
When we meet Abel, he is very dark and tortured, and his reason for that becomes clear as the story goes on.
I don't typically read BDSM, and had no real clue that's what I was going to get when I began the book. That wasn't my main issue though - as especially the first sex scene was blazing hot!
I have the 'to each his own' mentality, but this brothers share the one brother's wife whenever they want was NOT my thing!  I was happy that things on that front ended differently for this couple.
I did feel as though I was on a yo-yo ride though of bi-polar personalities.  I could understand this from Abel, but I did not get Talia's at all. She's happy go lucky "valley girl" type at the beginning, and then she's a dom. It just did not match up for me.
A lot of the part of the wolves hunting story also did not make a lot of sense to me.  I also did not like the resolution of Abel's birth-father storyline (or perhaps the author is leaving it open for the future?).
Erotic sex scenes = hot!
Storyline and characters = needs some work.
That's why I am giving the story a 3.5 Stars.
